Land Access

Many of the components of the proposal are on land owed by Solid Energy, or on land over which Solid Energy has mining rights. No private land is affected. While most of the scheme would be on Solid Energy land, we are also seeking access to about 90 hectares of adjoining land administered by the Department of Conservation (DoC). Most of this DoC land would form a large water storage reservoir. Solid Energy has investigated all potential alternative options for this reservoir but none are practical. The conservation values of this area have been assessed and discussions have been taking place with DoC officials about a swap for land of similar conservation value.
